Part I: Excession

You sat home and prayed for rain to douse the fire burning us all.
We filled the streets with channeled rage and fanned the flames with all our hope.
Can you move a star with will alone?
One million souls crying out for change,
While 10,000 throw their bodies against a wall.
The center held.
The falcon heard the call,
And tore out all our throats.
The falconer fleeced us all.
Pink hats and slogans didn't shake the beast for nothing.
Your sisters - slaughtered for "biology",
And yet not a peep from wringing hands.
Did you turn inward and protect your tiny hoard?
The planet kept spinning but our bodies lay still
Beaten down by the gravity of ten thousand suns.
A red tide overtaking every shore.
A sudden shift in atmosphere,
No more overgrown hominids to fill the sphere with carbon.
Our thoughts turned skyward in collective grief.
A voice boomed across the heavens:
"For we have never owned this land, so no one will ever own this land. You lived your lives for larceny abundant. Forever more you'll want for everything. The meek shall rise; your kings, and gods, and masters will grind into the earth like dust under the ages."

Part II: Excision

The view comes screaming into focus, red lights flicker through tunnel vision;
A glimpse of a fore-gone conclusion. Condensation drips from her visor.
Symbolic exemplar,
Caveat emptor.
A vision of future,
Absent of pain.
Halation effect, obscured at the edges. The sum of her parts, broken and shuffled.
Constituent pieces floating freely, compensation engine engaged.
Precursor sepulcher,
Absent forerunner.
A vision of former,
Devoid of truth.
A cloud collapsing. A core condensing. Rebirth in flame.
Long tail echoes fade, leave it all behind.
Shut their eyes and never speak of this again.
She delved deep, but the roots evaded.
They ran on forever, or never were at all.
Novum vitae.
Solanum vitae.
